Global Pulse Update: Getting the World Engaged
Nearly 7000 participants logged into Global Pulse 2010, a 3-day online collaboration event that brought together socially engaged participants and organizations from around the world. Results and data from the event, which was held in March, were recently published at http://www.globalpulse2010.gov/index.html.
Sponsored by USAID in partnership with the Departments of State, Education, Commerce, and Health and Human Services, the event used a crowdsourcing technology platform to engage participants representing 155 countries on topics ranging from Exercising Political and Civil Rights to Promoting Global Health to Advancing Entrepreneurship, Trade & Economic Opportunity.
Measuring Success
Key measures of the event’s success and initial results include the following:
- Participation (10k registered, 7K logged in)
- Participation outside of the US (57%)
- Participation by youth (47% under 35)
- Gender parity (51% F/49% M)
- Reaching a broader audience (26% universities, 27% NGOs)
USAID and its partner agencies have published summaries of the forums online at Global Pulse 2010. Raw data is also available, so participants and other interested parties can analyze the event’s results.
“Global Pulse has invigorated me. I am now thinking on a 'bigger' scale,” said Meg Filip, one of the participants, in a comment typical of the positive response to the event.
