IT Reform: A Platform for Sharing Lessons Learned

By centrally aggregating best practices, the platform will help cultivate how information is shared government-wide and with stakeholders.

Today marks the soft launch of the Federal CIO Council’s Best Practices platform, an online resource that promotes learning and collaboration. By centrally aggregating best practices, the platform will help cultivate how information is shared government-wide and with stakeholders. Additional best practices, case studies, and functionality will be added in the coming weeks.

The creation of this platform marks just one of the steps the government is taking to strengthen program management, as discussed in the 25-Point Implementation Plan released in December 2010. The platform complements agency TechStats and other efforts designed to reduce wasteful spending of the $80 billion annual Federal IT budget.

The CIO Council has established a Management Best Practices Committee to maintain this platform and to continue identifying best practices that support IT management. The Committee is co-chaired by Michael Locatis (Department of Energy), Chris Smith (Department of Agriculture), and Teri Takai (Department of Defense).
