Eric R. Olson was named acting Chief Information Officer / Deputy Assistant Attorney General for IRM (Information Resource Management) at the Department of Justice in August 2011. As the Department’s senior technology executive, Mr. Olson is responsible for providing leadership to and oversight of the Department’s $3B portfolio of information technology programs and services in support of the Department’s expansive and technology-intensive law enforcement mission.
Most recently Mr. Olson served as Deputy CIO / Director for e-Government Services at the Department of Justice where he was responsible for a diverse portfolio of IT operations and mission-critical programs encompassing enterprise network and web services and law enforcement information sharing and open government programs.
Prior to joining the Department of Justice in 2003, Mr. Olson was a consultant with Accenture where he was responsible for leading IT solution delivery projects and business development activities primarily at Fortune 500 telecommunications companies. Mr. Olson also held technology management positions at both Verizon and Sprint where he was responsible for leading large IT programs in the areas of enterprise application development, enterprise architecture and business process redesign.
Mr. Olson earned a Masters degree in Business Administration from the College of William and Mary and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the Pennsylvania State University.
